All You Need to Do in Curacao

Visit Handelskade

On the Punda side of Willemstad is Handelskade, that picturesque stretch of pier you've seen on every Curaçao postcard. Colonial Dutch buildings painted in brilliant pinks, blues and yellows line the waters of St. Anna Bay. Grab a seat and a daiquiri at one of Handelskade's outdoor cafes and watch the Queen Emma Bridge swing open to let ships into the harbor or pop in to one of the shops along the water.

View Queen Emma Bridge

Queen Emma Bridge is a long pontoon bridge that connects Punda and Otrobanda. The bridge was built in 1888 and was completely renovated in 1939. It is hinged and opens regularly to let ships pass. The locals have given the bridge the nickname “Our Swinging Old Lady” as it will swing to the Otrabanda side of Willemstad.

Must to do in Curacao

See the oldest surviving synagogue in the Americas

Continuing the theme of Curaçao’s wonderful cultural diversity, Willemstad’s Mikve Israel-Emanuel Synagogue dates back to 1674, and is nestled (in gold) artfully between green, red, and yellow buildings.

Go to Jaanchie's Restaurant

No menus here. Jaanchie, the owner, will rattle off a list of his specials for the day. Our pick? Just tell him to bring out his favorite. It’s a little bit of everything, including the island’s rumored aphrodisiac — iguana. Don’t think about it. Just try it.

Go to Wilhelmina Park

End up at Wilhelmina Park (named after the Queen whose statue stands at the centre of the park). This park is not only beautiful, it’s a great place to rest for a moment and take in everything that is Curacao. It’s an excellent people watching spot. Bordering the park are lots of shops, cafes and restaurants, so this may be a great place to grab a coffee or light lunch.
